NovaSom Joins American Sleep Apnea Association Industry Roundtable

NovaSom supports the organization’s dedication to quality
patient outcomes through improved access-to-care for patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

GLEN BURNIE, MD., February 19, 2014 NovaSom, Inc., the provider of the AccuSom® home sleep test for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), announced today that it has joined the American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) industry roundtable, a group of corporations that support the organization’s mission, programs, and activities.

The American Sleep Apnea Association, founded in 1990, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes awareness of sleep apnea, works for continuing improvements in treatments for this serious disease, and advocates for the interests of sleep apnea patients and their families. The ASAA is the only patient advocacy group for people with sleep apnea.

“Our mission is to improve health outcomes for people with sleep apnea – one of the most serious, under diagnosed conditions in the United States,” said Edward Grandi, Executive Director of the ASAA. “We believe that home sleep testing is one more way to ensure those with sleep apnea receive the care they need, and we are thrilled to work with NovaSom on increasing sleep apnea awareness and improving patient outcomes.”

As part of its endeavors to increase understanding of sleep apnea, the ASAA fulfills thousands of requests for information from the public each year and answers a multitude of questions concerning diagnosis and treatment options. Its programs include a nationwide patient support group network, online resource center and directory, and the CPAP assistance program, which provides therapy to those in need but lack the means to obtain it.

“Like the ASAA, NovaSom is dedicated to making sure that people with sleep apnea are connected with the care they need,” said John Spitznagel, Chief Executive Officer of NovaSom. “For most patients, home sleep testing provides a convenient, faster way to establish their diagnosis and begin the therapy they need to address this serious condition, which contributes to obesity, heart disease and stroke, diabetes and overall mortality risk. We look forward to working with ASAA to support patients and further the industry’s understanding of sleep apnea.”

The FDA-cleared AccuSom® home sleep test is significantly more convenient and comfortable for the patient, compared to in-facility testing.  Patients are able to test around their own schedule and can sleep in their own bed, which helps eliminate “first night” effect and improves data collection. Unlike other home sleep tests available today, AccuSom® is the only test that transmits results data wirelessly to the interpreting physician, dramatically improving the speed to therapy.
