NovaSom’s Home Sleep Test

A NovaSom Home Sleep Test (HST) is a convenient alternative to Sleep Center  testing that can be performed in the comfort and privacy of a patient’s home, at a fraction of the cost of a Sleep Center study.

With the NovaSom HST, the patient sleeps comfortably in his or her own bed, and measures the parameters recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

  1. breathing effort
  2. blood oxygen level
  3. heart activity
  4. snoring
  5. airflow

These parameters are measured with three sensors:

  1. Chest sensor: worn around the chest to measure breathing effort
  2. Finger sensor: worn on the finger to measure oxygen levels in the blood and heart rate
  3. Breath sensor: placed under the nose to measure airflow and snoring

These three sensors allow the patient to sleep in the position that is most comfortable ang get up during the night as necessary.

NovaSom's HST is FDA- approved for uncomplicated adult OSA. Its accuracy, compared to in-facility testing, has been validated in two separate clinical studies. Additionally, it provides a representative night's sleep that is overwhelmingly preferred by patients. Read the research here. Importantly, once ordered, there are no waiting lists and patients receive the diagnosis and treatment they need within days.

NovaSom HST Technology

NovaSom completes a Home Sleep Test with one of 2 devices, the first generation NovaSom QSG device, or the Second-generation, AccuSom -- the first FDA-approved wireless device. Both devices are CMS Type III, cardio-respiratory monitors.

The NovaSom QSG consists of a bedside unit which is connected to a small patient module, worn on the patient’s wrist. The breath, chest, and finger sensor connect to the patient module. The second generation AccuSom device simply consists of a patient module, worn on the arm, and the 3 sensors. Set-up for both devices is simple and both devices use voice prompts to walk the patient through this process. The AccuSom voice prompts can be programmed in multiple languages.
