Have Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a chronic medical condition that affects an estimated 18 million Americans. Common symptoms of sleep apnea include loud, frequent snoring; gasping or choking that wakes a person up; or excessive daytime sleepiness.

A person who has OSA stops breathing while sleeping because the air passage in the throat becomes blocked during sleep. Often caused by a relaxed soft palate, an apnea blockage prevents oxygen from entering the lungs for at least 10 seconds and can occur hundred of times during a night.

Not everyone with sleep apnea symptoms has the condition. You can take a sleep apnea risk survey at Apnea.com to find out if you or a loved one might have sleep apnea.

As with any medical condition, a sleep apnea diagnosis is made by a physician.
